They constantly innovate and work collaboratively on song arrangements and selection, to keep their set performances fresh and engaging.  As its name implies, Red Bridge Band performs music that spans genres, connects people, and makes the good times roll.

Our Story

The origins of Red Bridge Band go back to the late sixties, when three Providence College students met and started playing music during their junior year abroad in Switzerland. They were influenced by the roots-rock of the Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, and others that were popular at the time. Jay (lead guitar), Paul (rhythm guitar and harmonica) and John (drums) stayed in touch throughout the years, getting together whenever possible to play music, even while living in different states. The three were reunited in 2016, when John relocated to RI. The band was named after the span that connects Providence and East Providence. The old bridge (officially known as the Henderson but familiar to locals as The Red Bridge) has since been torn down and replaced by a new bridge. But the name stuck because band members were always travelling over it to their rehearsal space at John's home in East Providence. They worked with a few other players until 2020 when the pandemic prevented them from playing gigs, but they continued to hold rehearsals outside in the backyard. That's when Lisa, who lives in the neighborhood, joined on keyboards. She and John met while Lisa was playing accordion in an acoustic outdoor jam with some other neighbors. A lead singer and bass player were added, and that version of the band made their first public appearance at a block party in Providence in 2021. The following spring they made an appearance on Motif Magazine's "Between the Notes" podcast, and played at the Hot Club in Providence. Another personnel change delayed the band from performing again until late summer. Since then, Red Bridge Band played dozens of shows through 2024, when the lead singer and bassist decided to go their own way. In 2025 the band  is ready to rock again, expanding their geographic boundaries with Mike from MA on bass and vocals, and Rachel from CT on lead vocals.
